The last day is always a weird feeling around the group home. There is a feeling of heaviness among the team because they know that today is the last day to play with the kids. The group has really bonded with the children. They will miss them, but maybe they will think of them throughout the year and pray for them. You can see it the faces of the children also. They will miss the team greatly. It is difficult for them because grow close to the teams that come and then they have to say goodbye. It’s a lot like going away to camp when you were a kid. For the children, they stay home for camp and the people come and go in a week or 10 days. It is all they know. They grow up knowing that their parents gave them away. They grow with people coming and going all the time. The only consistency they have are from the Mike and Georgia. This makes leaving a hard thing. Tomorrow morning will be tough for them and for us.
Today we did a feeding program in the church that is being built on the property. We set up 100 and some chairs and a saw horse to teach from. It was to be a woman’s ministry. Kristen welcomed the group and introduced the speaker. She was the mother of a college student that spent a summer as an intern at the group home. She really did a great job communicating her testimony and the message of Jesus’ acceptance of those who are shunned by others and mistreated by men. It was an amazing time and the women seemed to really understand and connect with the story and the teaching. After the message we handed out a bag of food to 106 people from the small town of Jalaca. It was a great morning. The afternoon was filled with cake baking, organizing, and playing with the kids (even in the misty rain). Tonight we had birthday celebration for one of the girls. Audris turned 5 today! I think I speak for the rest of the team when I say, I can’t wait to see her when she is 6 years old.
